~ Teen Talk starts at The Upper Room, where teens can come to chat~
Derry, NH, December 4, 2019

The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center, announces it’s launch of Teen Talk, a teen drop-in time, where students 13 - 18 can engage in teen driven conversation, ideas, sharing and connection. Spurred by the generosity of last years Pizzastock events of which The Upper Room was given a donation, and the We Are One Event held in January of 2019 at The Boys and Girls Club, The Upper Room began planning to offer a group where teens can just drop in and chat. This fall, Vanguard Dental made a donation through a Smiles for Life fundraiser that The Upper Room benefitted from. It was then we finalized our plans to offer a weekly drop-in for any teen who wants to come by and chat.

Facilitated by Nicole Smith Martin, our Adolescent Wellness Program Coordinator, this group will offer a safe space for teens to stop by, talk, learn and problem solve issues relevant to them. Light refreshments, and facilitated conversation, will offer attendees the chance to be with a caring professional who wants to help young people feel less isolated and more connected. “We want to offer a place where young people can talk, explore healthy ways to problem solve, have a little fun, and feel aligned to others who may be in a similar situation” states Brenda Guggisberg, Executive Director. “With the need for young people to be connected to and surrounded by adults who are compassionate and caring, and who can assist young people in finding their inner voices, finding solutions and mentoring toward health and wellbeing, we are just so excited to be able to provide a space and place for teens to be. In line with many other agencies, schools and community service organizations, we want to be part of the solution, to reduce suicide, reduce harm, and improve the overall skills and minds of the teens in our community” Guggisberg shares. All are excited that the staffing, and resources are available to offer this group.

“We are excited that this is finally coming to fruition and confident that the students who attend will have a chance to talk, be heard, and feel understood” states Nicole Smith Martin, program coordinator. Those attending will be encouraged to look at the life of teens today, the opportunities, challenges and their responses to them. Teens can join us beginning December 10, 2019 on Tuesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 PM at The Upper Room 36 Tsienneto Road in Derry.

To register or for more information call 603-437-8477 x 29. Teen Talk is FREE of charge and open to teens 13 -18 years old. Same day, walk in attendees welcome.
