The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center, is excited to share that beginning January 29th, 2020 a Work Ready NH course will begin at The Upper Room on Tsienneto Road. In partnership with the Community College System and NH Works, The Upper Room will offer a program to help any worker 18 and older who is just entering, who has taken time off and wants to re-enter or anyone who just wants to buff up their employment savvy to gain their ideal dream job or apprenticeship. “We are very happy to be able to start this program here in Derry, as it offers people in this region an opportunity to gain the skills and not have to travel to Manchester to do it.” Shares Brenda Guggisberg, Executive Director of The Upper Room. “This program is in line with our mission of self-sufficiency, along with our schools and economic development missions of having a prepared and strong work force, and they have been at the table helping push this along with us to make this a reality.” Both Doug Cullen from Pinkerton Academy and Beverly Donovan, from The Economic Development Office in Derry, are in favor of this program being brought to Derry.  

Attendees will achieve a National Career readiness certificate and a Work Ready NH certificate which can be looked at very favorably by hiring employees as it assures that this employee has gone through the rigor of updating their skills and talents for the current work force. This free course is a win win for our community and is something that Work Ready NH is excited to try. The Upper Room is the first off site placement for the program and this is equally exciting for Work Ready NH to test this option out and see how it fits in community based environments.

This is a program for the entire Southern NH region. Our first class will be limited to 15 attendees. Future classes are planned throughout the year with a goal of 4 session to be offered this coming year. “We could not be happier to be offering something that meets a community need, fully supported by Work Ready NH” states Guggisberg “For so many young adults the next step may not be college it may be work, apprenticeship, or exploration and this program will connect both young workers and seasoned workers who are seeking updated employment skills to gain them right here.”   

An on site registration will take place January 22, 2020 at 3:30. Classes will begin January 29th and run Wednesdays 3:30 – 7, and Thursday 3:30 – 7:30 for 8 weeks, at The Upper Room 36 Tsienneto Road in Derry. Same day walk in registrations welcome January 22nd at 3:30 PM.
