~ Bedford Senior Jordan Starace Names The Upper Room as her Senior Project ~

Derry,NH May 23, 2019

The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center,

Bedford High School senior Jordan Starace gathered over 2000 diapers for the young parents at The Upper Room’s Teen Information for Parenting Success program. Janis LIlly, TIPS Program Coordinator shares,” Lack of diapers is often cited as one of the top stressors for families.” Wanting to do something concrete, that would help families in need, Jordan worked with community partners to place boxes in 3 different locations in Bedford, one at Orange Theory Fitness, My Gym, and Nini Bambini to collect diapers over the course of four weeks from the Bedford community. The Senior Project was developed as an opportunity for qualifying members of the senior class to develop an understanding of specific careers before graduating from Bedford High School. Jordan hopes that her donation will help families stress less and connect more. We can’t thank her enough.
“Jordan exemplifies the spirit and positive impact volunteerism has on the larger community”, states Brenda Guggisberg, Executive Director. “The Bedford community has supported our agency over the past 2 decades through acts of service such as this, and the young families we support are grateful for this level of support, as it allows them to focus on completing high school, and provides them with a resource they need as a parent”. The TIPS Program offers young parents support and education through a weekly support group that meets Wednesdays 5 – 7 PM. Open to all new or expecting parents ages 13 – 23, this program encourages young parents to finish high school, and to engage in post high school activities that will help parents be self sufficient. Meetings offer refreshments, childcare, and parent education and support on topics that parents identify. Child development, money management, potty training and understanding how to get quality childcare are among the dozens of topics Janis Lilly offers throughout the year to promote strong and healthy young families. This program seeks to connect young parents with support and education to increase their connections. TIPS also meets at local high school for students seeking support. Local school nurses and guidance staff often assist young parents in accessing our services to support their needs. TIPS is one of the founding programs of The Upper Room and has for 33 years, offered young parents a place to connect, learn and be accepted.

To find out more about TIPS, please visit our website at www.URTeahers.org or call 603-437-8477 x 12 to register to attend the TIPS Program weekly meetings. This is a FREE service, and open to all young parents.
